Supporting thoughtfully designed medium-density living —

Habitat Planning was pleased to work with local developer, Barker Group to secure development approval for a new residential apartment project at 557 Thurgoona Street, Albury.

The approved development is an architecturally designed multi-storey building comprising 24 apartments, with a mix of one, two and three-bedroom homes. Ranging from 72m² to 251m², the apartments have been configured to maximise space, natural light and indoor–outdoor living, with private balconies and terraces throughout.

A considered planning approach —

We were pleased to have played a lead role in the planning process, guiding the project from early stages through to determination. We were able to work through key considerations such as built form, streetscape presentation and landscaping outcomes, and position the development as a positive addition to an otherwise predominantly low-rise surrounding residential area.

Working alongside a broader project team of technical consultants, Habitat provided detailed planning advice throughout and prepared a comprehensive Statement of Environmental Effects to support the planning application.

A development that connects with its surroundings —

The development has been positioned to take advantage of its corner location, activating both Thurgoona and Pemberton Streets and creating a stronger connection to the surrounding neighbourhood.

The material palette brings a level of warmth and texture to the development, combining face brick, perforated brickwork, metal cladding and concrete elements, softened through curved balconies, layered façades and generous landscaping.

Driving housing diversity in Albury —

With the Murray River precinct and key amenities within walking distance, this contemporary medium-density development offers a connected and convenient way of living. Projects like this play an important role in broadening housing choice across Albury Wodonga, particularly with increasing demand for well-located, low maintenance housing within close proximity to the CBD.

The mix of apartment types also adds to that diversity, appealing to a wide range of residents from professionals through to retirees and downsizers, who are looking for centrally located accommodation.

A positive planning outcome —

We’re pleased to have been able to support Barker Group in achieving this successful outcome, and help to facilitate sought after medium-density housing for the Albury Wodonga and surrounding region.

The approved development will present a built form that has considered the heritage of adjoining areas, namely Forrest Hill, and proposes a contemporary design that will set a high standard for the redevelopment of central Albury

Congratulations to Barker Group and the wider delivery team on this successful planning outcome.
