Construction of a full line supermarket and three specialty shops for national retailer, Coles, and associated works in Thurgoona.
Habitat was pleased to work alongside Coles Group Property Development to provide planning advice and obtain development approval for the construction of a 17.5-million-dollar large format supermarket and specialty shops in the residential suburb of Thurgoona, NSW.
A generous site area at 3535m2, comprising 2418m2 of single level retail floor space and carparking for 165 vehicles with designated ‘click and collect’ bays’, the centrally located development is an exciting undertaking for the growing Thurgoona-Wirlinga community.
Successive items for development approval included business identification signage, erection of covered shade sales, landscaping works and associated infrastructure works.
Externally, the building will primarily consist of concrete tilt-up panel construction with accents of various finishes such as face brick, trimwall and corrugated profile sheets to create visual interest.
In an effort to generate interaction with the street the building has been orientated accordingly. With frontage to both Thurgoona Drive and Diamond Drive, the developments specialty stores will help screen and wrap the larger supermarket building, enhanced with outdoor seating/dining areas and low-rise garden beds to encourage outdoor activity and activation.
Thoughtful landscaping is also proposed to soften and screen the visual appearance of the development, as well as to improve biodiversity values and amenity on-site.
A welcomed addition to the community, the development is set to be complete and open for trade by June 2025.
