Dating back to the 1890’s, The Kinross Woolshed Hotel is a piece of local history turned modern pub located in Thurgoona, NSW on the outskirts of Albury. Formerly one of Australia’s busiest shearing sheds, it was moved from the Ross’ family property in Holbrook, NSW to its current site in 1988. Today, it’s a unique space that combines rustic heritage with modern design, providing good old-fashioned fun, for everyone.
Pub Funds Investments engaged Habitat to manage the permit application process from pre-lodgement to approval for significant alterations and amendments to the existing pub. Habitat prepared of a Statement of Environmental Effects (SEE) for submission to Albury City Council to support the transformation and worked alongside industry partners for management and review of relevant documentation.
Extensive works to the property included a full demolition of the internal walls and fixtures, with the original building frame and fabric retained, together with the existing stage and fireplace.
The new internal layout comprises a larger gaming area with separate entry, relocation of the front bar, a larger dining and function room, a larger kitchen, main entry to the dining area and new bathroom facilities.
Externally, the existing deck and outdoor area was demolished to make way for construction of a new upper and lower decking area complete with fire-pit and in time, a 4-lane bowling alley.
A new fully sealed carpark with 104 bays replaces the previous unsealed and unmarked car parking area, and new signage and removal of native vegetation were other items that development approval was sought for.
The upgrades to the Kinross Woolshed Hotel were intended to provide a pub that serves the local community – a space that is relaxed and offers a warm atmosphere.
