Planning approvals for Rivelea’s Bungowannah and Balpool piggeries required that an annual review be undertaken to ascertain compliance with conditions of approval. These conditions included the requirement for monitoring of various elements of the piggeries operation including waste management, odour, groundwater, vegetation, community liaison and application of compost.
Habitat was tasked with undertaking these audits and preparing the annual reports. The reports required an inspection of the piggeries and interview of management as to any environmental issues occurring during the year as well as any improvements undertaken that lessened the environmental impacts. The reports were an important tool in establishing relationships between the piggeries, State government agencies, Councils and local communities.
